Will Trump give Tiktok a reprieve?

Will Trump's presence give a reprieve for TikTok?
The hours are ticking down towards the beginning of the date, which is the 19th of January 2025.
It is on this date that the Supreme Court of the Usa has decided that the ban against TikTok stands, and will come into force on the 19th of January 2025.
On the 18th of January 2025, the Supreme Court rejected the appeal by TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, to halt a law that will ban the popular video app in the U.S.
This is how the news reached us in the UK about the potential ban of TikTok in the Usa.
Unless the Chinese-based ByteDance company removes its stake in the app and passes this over to a party that is not located in a country deemed a “foreign adversary.”
The pending ban came about following concerns from some US politicians that the company might share user data with the Chinese government, despite repeated assurances from the firm that it would not.
The outgoing and former Biden administration has stated that the decision about enforcing the law was going to be passed over to President-elect Donald Trump.
However, President Trump has recently stated that he wants to find a resolution that will keep TikTok legal in the U.S
Despite trying to introduce his own TikTok ban during his first term as president, he has since changed his mind.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, he wanted to "save" the app and expressed a concern that a ban would help its rival, Facebook.
It must also be noted that Mr. Trump has already signed up for TikTok and currently has over 14 million followers on the site.
Now this is where it gets interesting.

News reaching Australia about a potential TIKTOK BAN
What happens if President-elect Trump fails to save TikTok for the American people?
Well....
TikTok has an estimated 170 million users in the US. These users will still be able to use the app because it is already downloaded on their phones.
However, without software and security updates, the app will become obsolete.
Anyone trying to load or update the TikTok app from the 19th of January 2025 will not be able to download the App from either the Apple or Google app stores.
Some users may attempt to access the TikTok app through VPN services (virtual private networks), which can conceal their IP address, user details, and thereby their location.
Content creators who have already built hefty businesses from their TikTok followings are already preparing for the app's demise and have redirected their followers to alternatives such as Instagram or YouTube.
Some of these so-called TIKTOK refugees are already turning over to another Chinese app. Simply known to us as RedNote
USA TikTok users move in their droves towards the program - RedNote (See YouTube video below)
Traditional Advertisers that have been using the TikTok App have been rushing around to find alternatives. Up for grabs would be at least $11bn in annual US ad investment for anyone who can provide the same sort of services that TikTok was providing..
TikTok ban and various companies' marketing strategies panic
Mr Trump could try to use an "executive action/order" to protect TikTok for his four years in office. And by that "softening" the tensions trade-wise. between the two countries.
What impact could a ban have on UK users?
There is no suggestion that the US ban would directly affect users in the UK. Technology within the UK is stiffly regulated by legislation.
However, UK TikTok creators, who create content on various social media platforms for a living, have expressed fears over the proposed ban.
Many state that a ban within the USA for TikTok users would prove fatal to their audience figures and customer base, as many of these come from the Usa themselves.
So, what would happen to the music industry if TikTok were to go away?
Some within the music industry might be very happy about it, given that TikTok has been extending YouTube’s trend of taking control away from them.
But in general, not much.
A U.S.A. ban doesn’t mean a worldwide ban, and—as the YouTube experience has shown—popular services can help take artists global with much less effort than before.
More generally, the forces that TikTok has set in motion will simply continue elsewhere.
Google has launched TikTok competitor services, such as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels
Other apps such as Triller and Likee are out there, too.
All this has already taken a toll on TikTok users:
TikTok usage peaked in 2022, and the trend was heading downwards.
It’s hard to imagine that this is because users have gotten tired of addictive apps that push engaging short-form music videos onto their phones.
Users can and will go elsewhere for the same kinds of experiences, and the effects on the music industry will continue.
But if Trump does save the day. For TikTok, Will TikTok numbers grow again?
