It came as a great shock to me & thousands of other music fans to learn that Marlena Shaw died at the age of 81 years old, on 19 January 2024.

Marlena Shaw's death was relayed to the world via her Daughter - Marla via a Facebook video. See below.

Marlena to many people around the world, will be, ever be linked to the track that made her legendary, and that is the track called "Californa Soul! - 1969".
 
This was featured on the 2nd album that she put out called - Spice of Life released in 1969. 
 
 
It was originally written and crafted by the  Ashford and Simpson  team in 1967 as a B-SIDE of the track created by the group called   The Messengers' A-Side single called "Window Shopping" 1967
 
This was the track like it or not that put her name above the parapet.
 

She also received great applause when she put her vibe and styling on the track called...

 "Yu-Ma/Go Away Little Boy" single by Marlena Shaw in 1977 (Released on the "Sweet Beginnings" album).

 
However, it was originally written and released by - Carole King, M. Shaw, and Gerry Goffin in 1969.
 
Marlene also laid down the bare bones of a similar groundbreaking track that used her music in the main part of this global hit for  
 
We all have our favorite Marlene Shaw track apart from the two mentioned above as they are loved all around the world.
 
Here is another track that never got the credit that she deserved that I love to this day...

We have lost a major figure now, but we have still a small return.
 
We still have her music.
Rest in Peace Marlene Shaw.
