Net Neutrality laws in 2024, now that Donald Trump has become President of the Usa.
In 2018, we here at the Electric Soul Show wrote a couple of articles about the subject that is Net Neutrality.
A lot has happened since we wrote those articles in 2018 about Net Neutrality.
Those articles were
- Net neutrality is the musician and the music lover or music buyer what gives
- A tale of two chambers net neutrality wise 2018
A lot has happened since we wrote those articles in 2018 about Net Neutrality.
We here in England were just getting over the fact that we had just dealt with Brexit (2016). Some say we still haven’t gotten over that fully.
Then, we as a nation (the UK) were to go through one of the most competitive General elections that we were to go through in ages(2019).
Then, like the rest of the whole world, we were to go through COVID-19. The less said about that, the better.
The fact that no one was paying attention to Net Neutrality in the throes of the other things that I HAVE MENTIONED above doesn’t mean that it hasn’t disappeared.
We need to keep abreast of issues such as Net Neutrality, as we could risk decisions or laws being made that dramatically affect our way of life.
Net neutrality became an issue under the Obama administration.
Then under the Trump administration (2016 to 2020), and then again under the Biden/Harris administration.
Finally, the topic is now it is going to be under a 2nd term of the Donald Trump administration Net neutrality isn't going away soon.
So where are we at in 2024 with regards to the subject?
So just to refresh your memories here is a quick recap as to what Net Neutrality is all about.
In short, Net Neutrality refers to the fact that the Internet should be free and remain free and open as humanly possible.
No one can own any part of the Internet, or take control over the different types of data and content that has been published.
Internet Service providers under this concept must provide the same service to every user, no matter who you are, or how much they pay for the service.
There should be no preference of the bigger user or companies, over the Individual user.
In short, there should be – No throttling (Intentionally slowing down the data from the account), no blocking, and No paying for preference.
However today, things have changed so what about the original concept of Net Neutrality?
The concept of whom is in charge these days of the Internet, refers to a number of Internet providers that have seemingly gained more power over the Internet and its usage than the initial start period or golden period of the Internet Industry.
So why is Net Neutrality deemed so important by so many?

Preserving an open and fair Internet:
- Net neutrality prevents discrimination against content or services by ensuring that ISPs cannot block, throttle, or prioritize data based on their commercial interests. Without net neutrality, an ISP could slow down access to a competitor's streaming service while offering faster speeds for its own, thus limiting consumer choices.
- Non-discriminatory access is essential because it upholds the internet's democratic principles. Allowing ISPs to control what users can access could lead to a type of censorship, infringing upon freedom of expression and access to information.
Ensuring equal access to information and services:
- Content blocking or throttling can limit access to essential information. In a scenario without net neutrality, an ISP could (theoretically) throttle access to healthcare websites, making it harder for users to find critical medical information.
- Net neutrality maintains a level playing field for online services. Without it, startups and smaller companies may be unable to compete if larger corporations can pay for faster access to users. This stifles competition and innovation by favoring established players.
Promoting competition and innovation:
- Net neutrality fosters competition among ISPs by preventing anti-competitive practices. If a dominant ISP could throttle or block access to competing ISPs' websites, it would discourage users from considering alternatives.
- Net neutrality encourages innovation in content and services because it allows startups to compete fairly. New platforms, apps, and services can emerge without facing discrimination from ISPs that could prioritize established offerings.

Economic and infrastructure concerns:
- ISPs argue that complying with net neutrality regulations can be financially burdensome. They claim that the cost of ensuring equal access to all data could lead to increased operational expenses and, potentially, higher subscription fees for consumers.
- Network management can be complicated by net neutrality rules. ISPs contend they need flexibility to manage traffic during network congestion or security threats, which they argue might be hampered by strict regulations.
Donald Trump's recent victory in the 2024 USA elections (5th November 2024). It would appear that he will likely be moving towards repealing the laws of Net Neutrality once again.
The 2024 US election has been a political roller coaster full of twists, turns, thrills, and spills.

Net neutrality being reinstated on 26 April 2024.
However, just as Net Neutrality got looked at as all go,
Then this happened. (*See below)
A three-judge panel on the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has issued a temporary stay on the FCC's Net Neutrality rules that were due to go into effect on July 22nd, 2024.

Let us not forget initially that the Usa Army developed the Internet to help Universities and other academic institutions continue with their own specific and personal research.
Over time as the Internet got perfected, many realized that this system would and could have mainstream appeal to the general public.
The main concern for Music creators, Musicians, Bands, music groups, or even small-styled music labels is; whether they be priced out or the market.
Or even overlooked if the Net Neutrality laws are repealed yet again by President Trump further down the line.
